What would you like for the new Pier Road?

Littlehampton’s Pier Road is about to undergo it’s biggest change ever with the building of the new Sea Defences by the Environment Agency and the enhancements of Pier Road by Arun District Council.

The anticipated completion date for works in Pier Road is in June 2014. By this time, all going to plan, we should have a great new walkway in Pier Road allowing pedestrians to enjoy greater space and have somewhere nice to sit and take in the view.

Littlehampton should also benefit as the town’s sea defences will be strengthened avoiding risk of flooding. The current policy of the Environment Agency to object to any developments in and around the Pier Road area will also be a thing of the past as the new sea defences will allow for further regeneration.

However, what has yet to be decided is the actual future of Pier Road itself.

By this, I mean the actual road surface. At this time, all of the relevant Authorities, Arun District Council, West Sussex County Council and the Harbour Board have yet to decide what is to become of the road itself once the sea defences and the associated enhancements are completed.

To-date the only decision that’s been taken is that Pier Road will have a new surface. And this was  a relatively easy decision as shortly Pier Road as you know it will be dug up to create the new sea defences.

So,why not let us know your views by taking part in our Pier Road Diaries Poll and let us know what you’d like to see in Pier Road (the road itself) once the new infrastructure is completed.

Thanks for taking part and sharing your views.

    Paviours

It is interesting that Councillor Dendle states in today’s Gazette that whatever the new surface is to be “It gives us a great chance to introduce Al Fresco dining……which people from London will want to take advantage of” He must know something I don’t know – where are these al fresco tables going to be? Do we only get visitors to Pier Road from London? He also keeps on saying, as does others from ADC that ” It brings to fruition Arun’s long held aspirations of having a high quality uninterupted pedestrian link between the town centre and the sea front” How do they work that out – you still have roads to cross, so how is it uninterupted?

  3. Terry Ellis says:

I just thought: The reason that certain Councillors at ADC try so hard to get re-elected is that they would “hate” to have to live and work with the decisions they have passed.

  4. Darrell says:

I think that the opportunity to great more space is a good one as walking along Pier Road at busy times can be quite hazardous and crowded – lets hope what ever decision is made it not only benefits the general public but also the Pier Road Businesses
